What to do with your hands in family photographs…
We’re all guilty of the dangling hand syndrome in photos
– or worse still,
the fig leaf pose.
You know what I’m talking about right?
Just like the art gallery statues that have a fig leaf or hands strategically placed to preserve modesty.
Hands should serve a purpose instead of just hanging there.
Here are some great tips courtesy of @lexiraephotography, Utah.
At the very least, relax your hand and rest it on top of your leg.
Try:
Single or double hand hold
Arm hold
Pockets-hand in one pocket/ both pockets/thumbs out/thumb in back pocket
Arms folded
Hold your neighbour’s shoulder
Hand on shoulder of a child
Shoulder hug – for kids between elbow and shoulder height.
Waist hold
Hold your own hand (not as weird as it might sound)
Both hands to hold baby
Jacket pull – for couples, if he is wearing a jacket, grab the open edge around chest height.
My personal favourite from this is the jacket pull – I need to remember to use it more when posing couples.
